OEA Educational Foundation Donates to Start New School Supply Fund
DONATE to SCHOOL FUND | CONTEST: Name New Fund
(August 14, 2018, Youngstown, OH) – This past month, Ohio Education Association Educational Foundation made a generosity donation of $4,100, which will make it possible for the Anthony V. Spano Foundation to establish their new school supply fund. The purpose of this new fund is to help primary and secondary school teachers & students purchase much-needed classroom supplies for their underprivileged students and further their education. The goal is to raise $10,000 over time so that school districts, families and teachers will be able to apply for grants to help offset the costs that they were paying out of their own personal funds.
In 2015, there was a staggering 12,537,000 children living in poverty in the United States. In 2016, there were 525,000 children in Ohio living in poverty and the July 2016 census reported that 96,366 people in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties live in poverty. The children are the ones who feel the impact of poverty the most … at home and at school. Many families are unable to afford the much-needed school supplies to help their young ones succeed. And many school systems no longer have the budgets to provide teachers and their students with many of even the most basic classroom needs. This new fund will help kids learn and achieve better educational outcomes. You can donate to this cause at www.spanofoundation.com/school.
