For the fifth year in a row, the Boo Squad Fund is making it their mission to help families with Thanksgiving meals. The Thanksgiving Food Drive has always been near and dear to our hearts and this past Saturday, November 20, a drive-through giveaway at Struthers High School was done to distribute food to those in need. The donations were for the Struthers, Poland, Boardman, Lowellville, Hubbard, South Range, Howland, Springfield, East Palestine, and Campbell school districts. All recipients were chosen with the help of local school districts’ guidance counselors and/or principals who supplied lists of families they felt were in need and would benefit from the meal. This mission will serve over 213 families. The Boo Squad Fund was created in 2018 through a partnership with Anthony V. Spano Foundation. The Spano Foundation is a 501 © 3 nonprofit organization for this fund.
“There are still many families that have members who have been laid off from work and are struggling because of Covid-19,” stated Dr. Heather Hrina-Medvec, Boo Squad director. “The goal of this mission is to teach our youth to be thankful. Thankful for many day-to-day needs that we all take for granted.” The Boo Squad is a volunteer group for children ages 7-13 and teaches our children about teamwork, volunteerism, and compassion.
