(Youngstown, OH) For the fourth year in a row, the Boo Squad Fund has made it their mission to help families with Thanksgiving meals. “Many families have members who have been laid off from work and are struggling because of Covid-19,” stated Dr. Heather Hrina-Medvec, Boo Squad director. “The goal of this mission is to teach our youth to be thankful. Thankful for many day-to-day needs that we all take for granted.” The Boo Squad is a volunteer group for kids ages 7-13. The goal of this group is to teach our children about teamwork, volunteerism, and compassion.
In 2017, the Thanksgiving Food Drive fed 10 families. In 2018, 35 families had meals and in 2019, 67 families had meals. This year the goal of the Boo Squad Fund is to feed 100 families this Thanksgiving. The Boo Squad Fund had doubled their goal and will be providing meals to 200 families this year for Thanksgiving.
The children also get to take part in the delivery of these meals to the local families and be able to witness the impact that the kindness can have on someone. Due to Covid-19, this year the Boo Squad will be providing a contactless drive thru at Southwoods to deliver the meals.
This is all made possible through the generous donations that are made to the Boo Squad Fund by others in the community.
This year, a BIG THANK YOU to Jessica Thornton and the entire team at Toyota of Boardman for their $500 check supporting the Boo Squad Fund in their mission to feed 100 families this Thanksgiving. Community support is everything. Thank you again for helping us teach our children the gift of giving back.
Also, Chic Chateau had a drive at the store where they collected from their patrons for 50 families, HD Davis donated for 7 families, and Holy Family donated for over a dozen families. Many thanks go out to these generous donors as well!
