A Way with Words Fund

Helping Kids and Families Face Life’s Toughest Challenges

The fund is here to support kids and families touched by cancer and other serious illnesses, giving them strength to face whatever life brings. Patients and caregivers can lean on each other, finding comfort and courage together—because there’s hope in what we do.

Brenda Rider started this mission over 18 years ago, dedicated to helping kids and their families. She also wanted to recognize amazing volunteers who make a difference, which is why this fund continues to honor them with the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award. This award, created by President George W. Bush in 2002, celebrates outstanding volunteers who make a real impact in their communities.

Now, Brenda has created A Way With Words Fund through the Spano Foundation to carry on this meaningful work. The fund supports children battling cancer and other life-changing illnesses while continuing to honor incredible volunteers each year with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

With the Spano Foundation as the presenting organization, this important tradition will live on, allowing Brenda Rider to keep giving back to the community in a way that truly changes lives.
