Your Greatest Gift May Be the One You Leave Behind
You’ve spent a lifetime building something meaningful — a career, a family, a set of values that matter. Planned giving is how those values outlast you. It’s how the causes you love continue to grow, serve, and transform lives long after you’re gone.
Through the Anthony Spano Foundation, planned giving is simple, flexible, and completely personal. Whether you want to establish a named fund that carries your family’s legacy, include ASF in your will, or designate a retirement account — we work with you and your advisors to make it happen on your terms, at your pace.
Here’s what makes ASF different: We’re 100% volunteer-led, which means more of your gift goes directly to community impact. There are no paid executives, no overhead-heavy infrastructure — just a board of dedicated volunteers who treat every donor like a partner, not a transaction.
A planned gift to ASF can be changed during your lifetime. There’s no commitment until you’re ready. Many donors start with a simple conversation — no paperwork, no pressure, just a discussion about what matters most to you.

Your gift lives on indefinitely — funding the causes you love for years, decades, or generations through a permanent named fund.
Tax-Smart Giving
Planned gifts can reduce your estate taxes, avoid capital gains, and provide income during your lifetime depending on the vehicle you choose.

How to Include ASF in Your Estate Plan
Four steps to creating your charitable legacy through ASF
Bequest in Your Will or Trust
The most common planned gift. Add a simple line to your will leaving a specific amount, a percentage, or the residual of your estate to ASF. Your attorney can add this language in minutes. You can change it anytime during your lifetime.
IRA or Retirement Account Beneficiary
Name ASF as beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or retirement plan. One of the most tax-efficient gifts available — retirement accounts pass to nonprofits completely tax-free, while heirs pay full income tax on inherited retirement funds.
Gifts of Appreciated Stocks/Assets
Donate appreciated stocks, real estate, or other assets during your lifetime or through your estate. Avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation and receive a deduction for the full fair market value. ASF works with investment partners to receive non-cash gifts.
Donor-Advised Fund as Legacy Vehicle
Establish a named DAF through ASF now, contribute during your lifetime, and name a successor advisor — a child, grandchild, or trusted person — to continue your giving after you’re gone. Your fund carries your name permanently.
Sample Bequest Language for Your Attorney
Copy and paste this into your estate planning documents or share with your attorney for the proper language.
“I give and bequeath [the sum of $_______ / ___% of my estate / the residue of my estate] to the Anthony Spano Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, EIN: 47-1355321, located at PO Box 735, Youngstown, Ohio 44501, to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

Planned Giving FAQs
Common questions about planned giving and legacy gifts through the Anthony Spano Foundation
How do I get started?
The easiest first step is a conversation. Contact us at info@SpanoFoundation.org or (234) 254-2831. We’ll schedule a free, no-obligation call to learn about your goals and walk through your options. No paperwork required for the first conversation.
What is planned giving?
Planned giving refers to charitable gifts made as part of your financial or estate planning — typically a bequest in a will, a retirement account beneficiary designation, or a gift of appreciated assets. Unlike a one-time donation, planned gifts are often the most significant a donor ever makes and create permanent charitable impact.
What is ASF's legal name and EIN for estate documents?
Legal name: Anthony Spano Foundation
Federal Tax ID (EIN): 47-1355321
Mailing address: PO Box 735, Youngstown, OH 44501
Please share this information with your attorney or financial advisor when preparing estate or beneficiary designation documents.
Do I need a lot of money to make a planned gift?
No. There is no minimum for a planned gift to ASF. Many donors start with a simple percentage of their estate — even 1% or 5% of an estate can make a meaningful difference. What matters is your intention to support causes you care about, not the size of the gift.
Can I change my mind after making a planned gift?
Yes — for most planned giving vehicles, especially bequests in a will or beneficiary designations, you can change your designation at any time during your lifetime. There’s no commitment until your estate is settled. We encourage donors to revisit their estate plans periodically.
Can a planned gift establish a permanent fund in my name?
Yes. A planned gift can establish a permanent named donor-advised fund at ASF carrying your name, your family’s name, or the name of a loved one. You can name a successor advisor to continue grant-making from the fund after your passing. Contact us to discuss the options.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Gifts to ASF are generally tax-deductible as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN: 47-1355321). Estate deductions for charitable bequests can significantly reduce estate tax liability. Gifts of appreciated assets avoid capital gains tax. Consult your tax advisor for guidance specific to your situation.
What happens to my gift after I'm gone?
Your gift is received by ASF’s volunteer board, professionally managed through our investment and accounting partners, and distributed according to your charitable intent. If you established a named fund, it continues indefinitely — funding grants to causes aligned with your wishes for as long as the fund exists.
